Case Studies

case-study

Take a look at the below case studies, as an example of what you could expect from our DJ or party disco service.

We met our Bride and Groom about a year before their wedding at their home. They are both professionals, one a Marine Biologist, and the other is reading his Phd. They planned to get married at a lovely local venue, Roffey Park Institute, which has recently opened its corporate facilities for a select number of weddings each year. Heart & Soul Disco are recommended suppliers for this venue, as we have demonstrated an excellent level of service to clients and an ability to work seamlessly with venue staff.

Following the consultation, they compared us to other suppliers and decided they would like to choose us for both the reception and our professional photography service. They liked the idea of having a single supplier for both services and were pleased with our competitive pricing, personal attention and strong portfolio of testimonials. Because we are known to the venue, they already had out PLI and PAT certificates on file, but we supply them to all new venues in advance once bookings are confirmed.

Closer to the big day, we provided them with our checklists, which are designed to ensure we understand the structure of the day, and help them plan the finer details of the wedding. Like many of our clients, they found this helped them feel more organised, and gave us a clear understanding of how we can ensure the day runs smoothly and that all of their requirements are fully met. In addition to timings, and details of the photography, it included first dance arrangements, lighting preferences, music likes and dislikes, specific song requests, and announcements for the evening. It also provided us with the names of the wedding party, so we could address them personally during the wedding. The week of the event, we contact the couple to run through all the final details again and reassure them, and spoke with the venue to ensure our arrangements were all in place.

The ceremony itself was at St Mary’s in Horsham, at 1.30pm, a venue our photographer knows well. The guests arrived at the reception at 3.00pm to a selection of background music, which was played throughout the wedding breakfast adding a wonderful atmosphere to the meal. The music is DJ’d throughout, as opposed to a pre-recorded playlist, to ensure its tailored to the mood and ambient noise levels. We supplied a cordless microphone and PA for the speeches.

After the wedding breakfast, we moved to the evening reception area, and set up our equipment for the evening disco. Guests were treated to background music, and we hosted all of the announcements, including the cutting of the cake ceremony once the evening guests had arrived.

We announced the evening disco, and gathered all the guests to the dance floor, the first dance song was ” It is you I have loved “ by Dana Glover, around 8.30pm. It was well rehearsed, and beautifully choreographed. Immediately after, there was a burst of “Rock around the Clock” by Bill Haley, requested by the Bride as a dance with her father.  The dance floor filled, and we continued with some rock and roll, and then moved into the clients’ playlist.  There are too many to list, but they included artists such as Stevie Wonder, Chase and Status, Michael Jackson, Muse, Shania Twain, Queen, Vengaboys, Nickelback, Guns n Roses, Snow Patrol, Bob Marley and Cascada, so a diverse selection with a few mixing challenges!.  We took a number of requests from guests on the night too, which kept them engaged with the music.

It was a huge success, with dancing all evening until we announced the last song, which was “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton. We received a wonderful testimonial and thank you card from the couple, and their parents, and they were all so pleased we were booked almost immediately for the second daughter’s wedding function later in the year at Highley Manor.

This Wedding was a wonderful event at Gatwick Manor Hotel. Anton and Christine booked us around 8 months prior to their wedding, having researched local DJ’s in the area. They were also offered an in-house DJ, and wisely made the decision to go for a more experience and an upmarket alternative, booking Heart and Soul. At the wedding consultation, they advised us that many of the guests will be travelling from Germany and that the format may be a little different to that we have previously experienced. We were pleased to confirm that we have performed at German weddings, and have a general understanding of the expectations.

Delighted with this, they also chose to book us for background music during the wedding breakfast, and we set up a cordless microphone and PA system for the speeches. They also booked our party snaps for the evening.

We consulted extensively with them on an English and German playlist, and also provided their German guests with a list of the available songs for requests. We made arrangements with the Best Man in respect of timings of presentations, including choreographed music for what appeared to be a bespoke puppet show for the Bride and Groom, which was a first for us.

The week of the wedding we checked all the arrangements, ensured the venue had an up to date copy of our insurances and PAT certificates, and checked the specially mixed version of She’s the One by Robbie Williams for the choreographed first dance.

heart-and-soul-disco-case-study-4We arrived at the venue around lunch time, liaised with staff and set up the equipment and lighting. We announced the Bride and Groom at the Wedding breakfast, controlled the mood with background music, and acted as MC’s to provide a seamless afternoon for the couple.

We organised the cake cutting ceremony, the first dance, a rock ‘n roll set, and all the remaining presentations, with the help of a German translator for the visitors. Mixing was difficult, as we had two distinct groups, those enjoying our English playlist, and those wanting the German tracks. We managed to keep everyone happy, with the dance floor full all night, ending with the bouquet being thrown and the last dance “All of Me” by John Legend at 12.30am.

The Bride and Groom commented as follows- “Thank you so much for everything you did today. Our Wedding was absolutely perfect, we have had a brilliant day and you were both a huge part of it. We had considered the in house DJ, but know for certain now we made the right decision, we cannot thank you enough.”
